Learning Opportunities

Community Foundation Equity Network

The Community Foundation Equity Network was developed in response to community
and national foundation interest in advancing equity and a desire among community
foundations to better understand and make progress on the issue.

Launched in 2017 in partnership with PolicyLink, with support from the Public Equity Group, the Community Foundation Equity Network is a historic effort to help community foundations advance equity in their communities and to shape the practice and thinking of the broader community foundation field.

Funders include the Ford Foundation and Surdna Foundation.

Equity Network participants:

• Baltimore Community Foundation
• Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo
• Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque
• The Denver Foundation
• East Bay Community Foundation
• Foundation for the Mid South
• Greater Milwaukee Foundation
• Kalamazoo Community Foundation
• The Saint Paul Foundation
• The San Francisco Foundation

The first meeting of the Community Foundation Equity Network took place in Chicago in July of 2017.  Community foundation board members, CEOs, staff from all departments and community partners met for three days to advance their work with like-minded peers.

Below is a sampling of the reaction of participants after their first convening:

This meeting gave me/us a new and incredible group of working peers in this effort… and an opportunity to reduce large goals to doable plans.
Bob Friedman, Trustee, The San Francisco Foundation

The CF Equity Network meeting was energizing, enlightening and helpful to our group’s efforts to do good work.
Carolyn Williams, Trustee, Kalamazoo Community Foundation

I leave inspired and energized to push even more.
Felicia Beard, Director of Racial Equity Initiatives, Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo

This left me hungry for more.
