SUMMARY:Community Foundations for Civic Health: Virtual Learning Series
DESCRIPTION:About Community Foundations for Civic Health\n \nCommunity Foundations for Civic Health (CFCH) is a national initiative led by CFLeads\, Rhode Island Foundation\, and the National Civic League. The initiative supports community foundations in confidently advancing civic health by leveraging community leadership\, designing their own civic health strategies or plans\, and engaging in shared problem-solving and peer learning. \n“Civic health” describes all the ways people make decisions\, solve problems\, and build community together. It depends on two things: the civic readiness of individuals — their knowledge\, skills\, and connections — and the civic opportunities that communities provide to help people develop and apply those skills. Community foundations play a unique role in supporting these efforts by convening partners\, investing in civic infrastructure\, and amplifying community leadership. \nRegistration for this series has closed\, and the series is now at full capacity. We’re excited to offer another Virtual Learning Series in Spring 2027. If you’re interested in participating\, please submit this interest form to be among the first to receive updates and registration information when the new series is announced. \n\nAbout the Virtual Learning Series\nThe Community Foundations for Civic Health Virtual Learning Series is designed for Community Foundations in the early- and mid-stages of developing or strengthening their civic health practice. This learning opportunity brings together trusted content expertise\, peer learning\, and real-world case examples from community foundations across the field\, highlighting what effective civic health work looks like in practice. \nThe series will build participants’ confidence\, clarity\, and readiness to advance civic health strategies that are rooted in community leadership\, collaboration\, and measurable impact. Participants will leave energized and better equipped to apply civic health approaches within their own communities and partner with key actors to support their efforts. \nRegister HERE \n\nLearning Objectives\n1) Build a shared understanding of civic health\, its connection to community leadership\, and opportunities to embed civic health into current foundation work. \n2) Explore approaches for identifying strategic partners and cultivating staff and board buy‑in around a shared civic health vision. \n3) Develop and strengthen understanding of strategies\, tactics\, and approaches for building\, operationalizing\, and measuring civic health work tailored to your community context. \n\nStructure & Details\n8-part virtual learning series including content experts\, peer learning\, and homework/pre-reads between each session. Each session is 90-minutes (3:00–4:30 pm ET / 12:00–1:30 PT). For more detailed information about each session\, please click here. \n  \nKey Dates: \nAugust 18\, 2026 – Session 1: Introduction & What Is Civic Health? \nAugust 20\, 2026 – Session 2: Ecosystem Mapping \nOptional In-Person Engagement: Sep 9-10\, 2026 – Community Foundations for Civic Health Summit \nSeptember 29\, 2026 – Session 3: Sensemaking for Community & Organization Strategy (Workshop Session) \nNovember 5\, 2026 – Session 4: What Are the Most Effective Civic Health Practices and Approaches? \nDecember 8\, 2026 – Session 5: How to Measure Civic Health \nJanuary 19\, 2027 – Session 6: How to Communicate Civic Health \nFebruary 9\, 2027 – Session 7: How to Fund Civic Health and Engage Your Board \nMarch 16\, 2027 – Session 8: Your Civic Health Next Steps \n\nParticipants\nEach community foundation is encouraged to develop a core learning team to engage in the series. Community foundations that are not able to form a core learning team are also welcome! Recommended team makeup includes 3 (maximum) members\, including: \n– A staff person driving strategic civic health work (team lead)- A CEO or senior leadership team member (optional)- A board champion (optional) \nCore team members are expected to attend all sessions. SUMMARY:“What’s Next\, America?” for Community Foundations
DESCRIPTION:Join CFLeads and the National Issues Forums Institute (NIFI) for an interactive introduction to What’s Next\, America?\, a national initiative that invites communities to use America’s 250th anniversary not only as a moment of reflection\, but as an opportunity to strengthen the civic skills and relationships we will need for the next 250 years. Participants will explore the initiative’s adaptable discussion and action-planning resources\, learn about opportunities for community mini-grant funding\, and consider how deliberative civic engagement can help community foundations strengthen civic health by bringing residents together across differences\, building shared responsibility\, and creating pathways from conversation to action. The workshop will also feature examples from the Walker Area Community Foundation\, illustrating how community conversations\, partnerships\, and locally rooted action have helped strengthen civic life in Walker County\, Alabama. \nSpeakers \n\nCristin F. Brawner\, Executive Director\, National Issues Forums Institute\nChristine Fernando\, Communications & Creative Manager\, National Issues Forums Institute\nPaul Kennedy\, President\, Walker Area Community Foundation \nSarah Aguirre Origer\, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Innovation\, CFLeads\n\n"What’s Next\, America?” for Community FoundationsPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Full Name *FirstLastEmail Address *The State/Province You Are Based In *AlabamaAlaskaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingOrganization Name *3 Rivers Community FoundationNot Listed414 Life540WestmainAAAAbalo HouseholdAbecasis HouseholdAberdeen Area Community FoundationAbriendo PuertasAbsarokee Community FoundationAccent on CincinnatiAccess PhilanthropyACT for AlexandriaACT Rochester at RACFAdams County Community FoundationAdams County Community Foundation (IN)Adams County Community Foundation (PA)Adirondack Community FoundationAdirondack FoundationAFNAfrica Grantmakers' Affinity GroupAfrican Visionary FundAICSESAkron Community FoundationAlamance Community FoundationAlbion Community FoundationAlbuquerque Community FoundationAlger Regional Community FoundationAllegany County Area FoundationAll-In CincinnatiAmador Community FoundationAmani Family ServicesAmarillo Area FoundationAmerican Dream Center InstituteAmerican Enterprise InstituteAmerican Indians in Texas InstituteAmerican Indians of Texas at SMAmerican Muslim Community FoundationAmigos de San CristóbalAnaconda Community FoundationAnaheim Community FoundationAnderson + BohlanderAnimal GrantmakersAnn Arbor Area Community FoundationAnnauma Community FoundationAnnie E. SUMMARY:Community Foundations for Civic Health: Reflections\, Insights & Next Steps
DESCRIPTION:Community Foundations for Civic Health: Reflections\, Insights & Next Steps\nJoin us for a virtual follow-up to the Community Foundations for Civic Health convening in Chicago. This webinar will bring together participants from the in-person gathering and other interested community foundation leaders to reflect on key themes\, share insights\, and explore actionable next steps in strengthening civic health across our communities. \nCommunity Foundations for Civic Health – an initiative led by CFLeads\, the Rhode Island Foundation\, the National Civic League\, and partners – is committed to increasing the number of community foundations confidently and effectively engaging in civic health work. Strong civic health means stronger communities: better health outcomes\, higher employment\, and increased resilience in the face of challenges. \nIn this session\, we’ll revisit the key takeaways from Chicago\, lift up promising practices from peers\, and look ahead to upcoming opportunities for collaboration and support. \nWebinar Details\n\nDate: Wednesday\, November 19\, 2025\nTime: 2 – 3 p.m. Eastern\nRegistration: Register HERE\n\nWho\nThis webinar is designed for community foundation CEOs and/or one other senior member of your staff who is leading civic health work (or who is likely to be part of future work). \nWhy Civic Health?\nWe believe civic health is the backbone of thriving communities. It’s about the strength of our civic infrastructure: the relationships between people\, between institutions\, and with the places we call home. When civic health is strong\, communities see better outcomes across the board – from improved physical health and employment rates to greater resilience during crises. When it’s weak\, divisions deepen\, and trust erodes. This convening is your opportunity to connect with peers\, learn from national experts\, and walk away with ideas and strategies to move this work forward in your community. \n \n

SUMMARY:The Gathering 2025
DESCRIPTION:About the Gathering\nFollowing the successful inaugural Gathering in 2024 in Atlanta\, CFLeads is thrilled to announce the next Gathering designed for African American Community Foundation CEOs\, taking place on October 19-21\, 2025 in Amelia Island\, FL. \nThe Gathering is an essential\, safe space for African American community foundation leaders to authentically share their lived experiences\, connect\, reflect\, and collaborate on the opportunities and challenges facing the field today. For the 2025 Gathering\, we chose Amelia Island as our convening space not just because it’s a beautiful place\, but because it’s a location steeped in profound Black history. It is home to American Beach\, founded by Abraham Lincoln Lewis\, Florida’s first African American millionaire\, as a haven for African American families during segregation. Florida also holds the legacy of the first Underground Railroad\, where enslaved people escaped south to freedom\, not north. \nWe hope you can join us for this impactful Gathering. This year\, the group will explore the theme\, Riding the Waves of Change. Register today for this special occasion filled with inspiration\, support\, and the opportunity to create a strong network in an ever-changing philanthropic ecosystem. \nMore details regarding the agenda and the booking link for the Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa hotel will be shared soon. In the meantime\, please mark your calendars and prepare for an enriching and uplifting experience. \nThank you to our 2025 Sponsors!\n \nHotel Information\nThe 2025 Gathering will be hosted at The Omni Amelia Island Resort. Strong\, ongoing connections between residents\, robust relationships between people and public institutions\, and positive attachments between citizens and the places they live are highly correlated with a range of positive outcomes\, from better physical health to higher employment rates to better resilience in the face of natural disasters. \nCivic health is based on the quality of civic opportunities and the strength of civic infrastructure. When these supports are weak\, people of different backgrounds and political perspectives are less likely to communicate or work together\, which exacerbates partisan polarization. \nWe look forward to partnering with you on this critical work.
