Welcoming Dan Templin to the CFLeads Board of Directors

We are honored to welcome Dan Templin, Executive Director of the DeKalb County Community Foundation to our dynamic board of forward-looking community foundation CEOs from across the country.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dan to the CFLeads Board of Directors. With two decades of visionary leadership in the community foundation field and a deep commitment to advancing education, equity, and community well-being in DeKalb County, Dan brings exceptional insight and passion to our shared mission,” said Mary L. Thomas, President & CEO of CFLeads

“On behalf of the CFLeads Board of Directors, I am pleased to welcome Dan to our leadership team. Dan’s deep roots in community service and his proven track record of strengthening local philanthropy make him a valuable addition to our Board as we continue to champion the power of community foundations to lead positive change,” said Isaiah Oliver, CFLeads Board Chair and President of The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida.

Dan Templin is originally from Peoria, IL but has lived in DeKalb County, IL for most of his life. He attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. Having had a variety of work experiences, including teaching and youth ministry, he worked with youth and their families through the DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau (YSB) for a total of 15 years, starting out as a mentor, then as a counselor, program supervisor, and serving as the agency’s Executive Director for nine years.

Dan joined the DeKalb County Community Foundation (DCCF) in 2005, serving as the DCCF’s first Program Director. In 2008, upon his predecessor’s retirement, Dan was selected as the DCCF’s third Executive Director, where he currently serves. Dan earned a Master’s Degree in Non-profit Administration from DePaul University in 2008.

Dan entered the community foundation field 20 years ago with an immediate focus on building the foundation’s community leadership role and work in DeKalb County. He has had a hand in developing and supporting the foundation’s evolving and growing impact in the areas of Education, Environment, Economy, and Equity/Belonging (4 ‘E’s’). Dan has served on the Board and as Board Chair of both the Alliance of Illinois Community Foundations (AICF) and CEONet.

I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to help advance the mission and services of CFLeads. Uniting as a community foundation field around one of the most important roles we play in our communities, that of leadership work, is critically important – especially in times of social anxiety and distrust in many anchor institutions. We attract, manage, and utilize various forms of capital to bring about positive quality of life in communities throughout the world. CFLeads is a champion in preparing for, training, supporting, and promoting that work.
