Melody MacLean

Director of Communications

Melody believes in the power of community foundations to make a difference on issues that matter, both locally and globally. As the Director of Communications, she sets and guides the overall vision and strategy for CFLeads’ communications efforts, including its website, brand, marketing and development.

Melody has spent the majority of her career working in the community foundation field. Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, she received a Joint Hono(u)rs B.A. in Communications and Political Science from the University of Ottawa before joining Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) in 2013 as their Communications Coordinator. In this role, she coordinated a national awareness campaign for Canada’s 191 community foundations.

In 2015, Melody took on the role of Manager, Public Engagement at CFC, securing significant financial and in-kind partnerships with the federal government, national corporations and multi-media companies to engage the private, public and philanthropic sectors in national initiatives, including Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Melody left Ottawa in 2017 to pursue a Masters of Arts in Communication Management at Emerson College in Boston. There, she was a part of the college’s nationally recognized Emerson Polling team, conducting statistical analysis around a variety of topics including the 2018 midterm elections and the use of social media in election campaigning.
